Strengthening its dominance in the gaming monitor industry, Taiwanese brand ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) recently showcased its 43-inch gaming monitor, the world’s first monitor with Display Stream Compression (DSC) technology at the AMD Next Horizon Gaming event at 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 2019) held in Los Angeles, California.

The Display Stream Compression (DSC) technology is an industry-wide compression standard for transporting ultra-high-definition video streams across a single interface at high speed with no perceptible loss of visual quality.

Using this technology, the new ROG monitor has the ability to have more detailed and smooth visuals at 4K resolution at a 144Hz refresh rate with a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection without chroma subsampling.

Before the DSC technology was introduced, in order to achieve the same level of display performance, gaming monitors needed to have two DisplayPort connections to transfer the video signal from the PC. Apart from this, a complex driver configuration is also required. The new ROG monitor eliminates these issues, supporting both HDR and variable refresh rates via a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection.

The new ROG monitor has a generous 43-inch big screen that doesn’t compromise fast and variable refresh rates that are commonly only found on monitors that have smaller displays. What also helps in delivering a smooth gaming experience is the AMD Radeon FreeSync 2 HDR technology which synchronizes the monitor’s output to the GPU’s frame rate. It also has an optimized input lag which can be useful in timing-sensitive battles.

The HDR support of the monitor also widens its contrast range, which gives deeper blacks and brighter whites for more depth and vibrancy. The new ROG monitor is also compliant to the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 specification with 10-bit image processing and 1000 cd/m² peak luminance.
