Joyce Yu, CEO of True Blends Tea and Coffee, is officially presented as a Lark Business Mentee |
Lark reveals the CEOs and companies chosen as mentees for the New Normal Business Council and Mentorship Program, as the webinars have officially ended. They are the CEO of True Blends Tea & Coffee, Joyce Yu, and the CEO of Pal Maritime Company, Mark Joseph David. Private coaching sessions with Lark's resource speakers, training sessions with the Lark staff, as well as an extra 100 GB of Lark cloud storage for one year, and Php300,000 worth of PR funding will be provided to both mentees.
To count as mentees, all three tracks of the series should have been attended by the company's CEO. The business must have been running for at least one year and should have at least 10 employees. As part of the shortlisting process, the CEO's response to the question "Why should you and your company be the beneficiary of the mentorship program?" was also evaluated.
Joyce Yu has evolved True Blends Tea and Coffee into a multi-branch coffee shop, with stores in key cities across the country, from its modest roots as a cozy cafe cart in the Ateneo de Manila High School cafeteria. For those looking for honest-to-goodness tea and coffee concoctions and delicious treats, True Blends is now a top-of-mind destination.
Joyce, a licensed medical technologist, says she depended on her beloved Mocha Frap to keep her awake while her board exams were being checked. When she decided to start up a company instead of practicing medicine, this experience encouraged her to set up her own coffee shop. She and her husband began True Blends in 2009 with only coffee on the menu, using their wedding angpao as a capital.
For True Blends, 2020 was pegged to be a year of aggressive enlargement, but their plans had to be put on hold when the pandemic hit. Joyce saw the need to adapt instead of being frustrated and seeking opportunities in the middle of this crisis. She did to help her team create resilience, which she credits as a key factor in her 11 years of business success, was to encourage them to open their own True Blends satellite branches in their communities.
Joyce is delighted to use Lark as an all-in-one solution for her company to move forward into a new normal career. Joyce is also looking forward to learning more about the app and its functionality, but not very technical. A feature she appreciates from what she has seen and learned about Lark so far is cloud storage, which can easily store all of her franchise-related documents in one location. By embedding all the franchisees of True Blends into the app, their virtual partnership can also boost.
Joyce shared this piece of advice with potential business owners at the awarding event for the chosen mentees. "Dream big and start small. Use your skills and resources. Plan, focus, start doing it, and most importantly, pray, ask for guidance all the time."
Joyce shared this message with fellow business leaders. "This may be a very difficult time for all of us, but it is a time to pivot, find more opportunities, not just to earn but also to help each other as a nation."
