| What Mayor Vico Sotto Has Done Regarding COVID-19 |
As of this writing, the #ProtectVico hashtag has more than 24K tweets. This is the result after some known personalities criticized what seems to be a defiance of Mayor Vico in regards to the order of no public transportation be allowed to ply the road. If you can recall, the Pasig City Mayor still allowed before the tricycle to pick up passengers that are exempted in the quarantine such as health workers.
But why is it that the mayor has lots of supporters and sympathizers, even those that are not from Pasig? For me, most probably because of his forward-thinking, fast, and proactive measures that he implemented about the COVID-19 outbreak.
So for those asking, we listed here What Mayor Vico Sotto Has Done Regarding COVID-19:
- Implemented precautionary measures against COVID-19 as early as March 8 (or maybe earlier).
- Purchased essential disinfecting supplies, tools, and equipment to disinfect public places.
- Purchased and turned over 500 sets of Backpack Sprayers with Disinfectants and PPEs to 30 barangays. The Personal Protective Equipment, includes hazmat suits, face shields, gloves, and boots.
- Implemented Anti-Panic Buying & Hoarding Ordinance (Pasig City Ordinance No. 7 Series 2020).
- Provided free rides to health workers and other frontlines.
- Installed Sanitation Tent in City Hall, Pasig City General Hospital, and Pasig City Children's Hospital.
- Purchased 400,000 food packs. The package has 3 kilos of rice, and canned goods (2 cans each of sardines, corned tuna, corned beef, and meatloaf).
- Ensured that Pasig government employees, including those with Job Order of No Work No Pay, will continue to receive their salaries.
- Provided mobile kitchen to health workers and other frontlines.
- Purchased drones to disinfect the whole city.
- Setup Quarantine Area (c/o donor) that can accommodate 100 PUIs.
- Distributed bicycles (repurposed Pasig Bike Share) to frontline government personnel and health workers to help them get to work.
- Updated the public with factual information.
