Equally, consumers have become more aware and more conscious about how a brand is helping the community as they have been looking and demanding authenticity in all areas where CSR is concerned. This notion of authenticity shows how these programs play an important role in how consumers view companies. CSR nowadays is more than just writing a check, donating a few items, and having a photo op.

Among the pillars of CSR is community engagement, wherein a company values the perception of the local community. Through different activities, through community engagement, a brand is able to show sincerity and inspires loyalty.

A company that has been at the forefront of community engagement is LG Philippines which throughout the years, has made a firm commitment to social responsibility. LG showcases this through different initiatives including providing assistance and support to the soldiers of war-struck Marawi and furthering culture and education at the National Museum.

Among its recent efforts is its partnership with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENRO) where it conducted an outreach program held at the San Joaquin Kalawaan Highschool in Pasig City. LG donated three units of its green dual inverter air-conditioners which has a70% energy-saving feature and an air purifier, a move that’s also in line with the celebration of World Environment Day. LG, with volunteers from the school and the community, also mounted a Green Living Wall.

For its long-term objectives, LG is aiming to become carbon neutral by the year 2030 through its Zero Carbon 2030 initiative. With this, LG commits as a whole to achieve net-zero carbon emissions from its global operations within 12 years.

According to LG Philippines Managing Director Mr. Inkwun Heo, LG’s efforts are the company’s contribution to providing the citizens of the world a better and safer tomorrow.

“The most important thing about programs such as these is the authenticity behind it, no matter how small they may seem at the start. By playing an active role in the community and its betterment as well as doing more than what’s required, LG is able to plant seeds that lead to better awareness, a better environment, and perhaps even a better future,” Heo said.
