The Seasons Residences Emphasize Importance of Structural Design |
A country in which Filipino people could learn a lot from in terms of earthquake preparedness in Japan, where tremors are considered as a part of their daily life. It’s something that locals have come to expect and have grown accustomed to. When tremors happen, earthquake drills are automatically performed like clockwork, after which everything goes back to normal. This seemingly casual nonchalance is owed to their confidence that advanced measures are in place, ensuring them that if a big quake does hit, they’ll be safe.
Through their experiences, Japan has developed useful technology and has adapted its buildings and infrastructures to resist natural disasters. One of which is the Visco-elastic dampers (VCDs), an earthquake vibration control technology that’s used by the world’s tallest buildings, including the Tokyo Skytree and Taipei 101.
Another remarkable establishment that prioritizes equipping their buildings with state-of-the-art Japanese damping technology is The Seasons Residences at Grand Central Park, a residential project made in partnership with Federal Land and Japanese conglomerates Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. Over the years, Season’s Residences utilizes the said technology to protect more than 300 buildings across the world, particularly in Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Mexico, the USA, and now the Philippines.
To bring a fruitful discussion about earthquake preparedness, structural design, and the intricacies and the technicalities of the damping technology, Federal Land recently hosted a short talk where experts in the field including Mr. Keisuke Sugihara, General Manager of PNS Advanced Steel Technology, Inc. (Nippon Steel Engineering Group) and Mr. Raul Manlapig, Managing Director of Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong Ltd. were invited. One of the topics highlighted was the use of the Visco-elastic dampers (VCDs) system which acts as shock absorbers to ensure that residents are safe and comfortable during earthquakes and typhoons.
Aside from the state-of-the-art damper systems installed, The Seasons Residences also strictly adhere to the Philippines’ National Building Code to further ensure an earthquake-resistant structure.
